The Rogue Poison Quest

Rogues and poisons. Well, they do have talents labeled Assassination, so it seems perfectly natural, right? All a Rogue has to do is a little quest and she can apply poisons to her weapons. These poisons can slow movement, slow thinking (spell casting,) or do either instant damage or damage over time (DoT.)

For a complete walkthrough of these quests you can go here: Rogue Poison Quest, but the basics are below. The quest can be obtained at level 20. Alliance has it easy, Horde Rogues will need a buddy or two, or otherwise be able to handle a 23 Elite.

By the way, unlike the lockpicking quest, this quest is required to get the poison skill.

Horde -
  1. Talk to the Rogue Trainer Shenthul, in Orgrimmar
  2. He'll have you do the secret salute then give you a quest. Accept it.
  3. Go to the Sludge Fens in the Northern Barrens, and find Fizzule
  4. Use your flare gun, as instructed, and salute him.
  5. He'll tell you what to do next.
  6. Go to the tower just west of you
  7. Pickpocket Foreman Silixiz at the base of the tower and get his key
  8. Kill the guys you need to kill and go to the top of the tower.
  9. Kill Gallywix (23 Elite) and open the chest. (You can pick the lock of that chest continuously if you want to work up your lockpicking skill.)
  10. Dispell the poison affilcting you with an anti-venom (if you have one)
  11. Go back to Shenthul and hand it in
  12. He'll send you to Tarren Mills to finish up and get the poison dispelled.
Alliance -
  1. The Alliance version is much easier that then Horde version.
  2. Talk to Mathias, the leader of SI:7 in Stormwind. He’ll give you the quest Mathias and the Defias
  3. Head to Westfall and go to the south east corner to talk to Agent Kearnan.
  4. The agent is very trusting, so you don't need a special salute or anything.
  5. You'll get the quest to enter the tower.
  6. Pickpocket the guy at the base of the tower and head up.
  7. Sap or kill Klaven at the top of the tower and open the chest (You'll be poisoned.) By the way, you can't continuously pick that lock. Just the one time is it.
  8. Dispell the poison with an anti-venom and head back to Mathias. He'll give you your poison skill.
  9. If you need to have the Touch of Zanzil dispelled he'll send you downstairs to the Doc.
  10. Note that you don't have to kill anything to do this quest.
Congratulations, you're done. Now go kill something.

Rogue Lockpicking, the Basics

The World of Warcraft Rogue has a unique ability - picking locks. This allows the Rogue to open chests, footlockers, and doors that would be otherwise inaccessible short of using a seaforium charge. Rogue's can also pickpocket boxes off humanoid mobs.

Here's a link to a complete Rogue lockpicking guide, but you can get the basics below.

Horde (Blood Elves can do this one or their own in the Ghostlands) -
  1. Head to Ratchet and talk to Wrentex the Wretched to get the lockpicking quest
  2. Get your tools and an ECAC from the device next to him.
  3. Head south along the coast to a ship parked up against the shore.
  4. Run up the bow spike and go to the stern and enter.
  5. Pick the locks there until your skill is at least 80.
  6. Head downstairs, to the bottom, find the chest at the back.
  7. open it, get the item, activate your ECAC
  8. kill the level 18 parrot in the next room (it'll be level 50 if you don't use the ECAC)
  9. Return to Wrentix and hand in.
Alliance
  • Get to Lakeshore (in Redridge) and talk to Lucius.
  • He'll give you your tools and send you to Alther's Mill, to the east.
  • Once you hit the mill, pick the practice locks till your skill is at least 80 then open the main chest.
  • Return to Lucius and complete the quest. You'll reeive your certificate of Thievery and get some snide remarks.
Congratulations.

Ask your Rogue trainer where you can go to level up your skills.

Also, pickpocket humanoid mobs for lockboxes. Open the boxes to level your skill and get Rogue poison materials. Every once in a great while these boxes will also contain more interesting items, but they're rare.

Zygor's Leveling Guide for Horde and Alliance

Given the thousands of quests in the World of Warcraft is it any wonder that people will choose to endlessly grind mobs (humanoids, monsters, beasts) in order to level?

When questing it's easy to get lost or find yourself traveling hither and yon in order to finish the quests. Many quests provide inadequate info which means that you can't head straight over to your objective.

Yet quests provide a lot of bonus XP as well as the occasional item, some of which are quite nice. They also provide relief from the endless grind.

This is why people pick up one of the many quest guides that are available. Quest guides are much like the strategy guides that you get from the store for your favorite console games. They tell you where to go, what to do, and in what order.

Some or these guides are websites, some are Adobe PDF documents, and some are in-game widgets that stay on your main screen. Zygor's is the latter. Not only does it remain on your main screen, but...
  • The window is resizable and moveable
  • It automatically tracks which quest you're on and updates when you finish
  • It provides enough info that you almost never have to look anywhere else, not even to your quest log, to be able to finish the quest.
  • It provides a waypoiont arrow to the location of every quest objective, and the arrow updates as you reach those objectives.
